WE are very proud of our 7’s Rugby Team, as they have had a very good season.
We thank their dedicated coach, Mr Sheldon van Zeeventer, and their generous sponsor, Meatmasters, who ensured that they looked very good while playing excellent rugby. Our sincere appreciation to the sponsors for their continued support of VHS.
Our tennis teams played against Newcastle High School on August 19. For the first time this season their opponents proved to be stronger and we lost 3 – 6. Despite being up against the very capable and experienced Newcastle teams, our players showed great enthusiasm and determination.
The First Boys’ Cricket team also played against Newcastle High School on August 18. VHS won the match with 55 runs. VHS batted first and scored 85 runs all out. The top batsmen were M Dedekind and K Meier. NHS then batted and were bowled out for 29. The leading bowler was Z Holliday with 5 wickets for 4 runs. Well played, gentlemen!
On August 16, we hosted our annual ‘Poetry and Art Evening.’ Learners’ own poetry is performed and their own art is displayed. We were amazed by the talent with words that many of the learners displayed. A special mention of Mzizi Mbatha, a very talented poet himself, who was the host of the evening. The ease and wit with which he performed his role as host shows that he is destined for a great future. Congratulations to all the learners who were willing to share a part of their souls with us.
Catia Marques took part in the Zululand Eisteddfod and achieved two A+ for ‘Vocal Solo Afrikaans with Sound-Track’. Congratulations, Catia!
