Loving couple who regularly donate blood

James and Esmé Henderson are a loving couple who enjoy donating blood.
Even though they live 40km out of town on a farm along the N11, they are regulars at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic at San Marco Centre.
Such is their determination to save lives with their blood.
A while ago, Mr Henderson and his children were involved in a car accident. Luckily, he and his children did not need blood, but it was an eye-opener for him.
He realised that life is so unpredictable and you never know when there may be a crisis and you will need blood to save someone else’s life or even your very own life!
“I thank God that His hand was upon me and my family, but life is very short and we have to do good before it’s too late,” says Mr Henderson. He feels strongly about helping others and has issued a challenge to the public to “come and donate and either equal or better my donations!”
One pint of blood can save up to three lives, so it is of vital importance that blood is donated, as there is no other way to get blood to those in need.
“I will stop giving blood when my blood is no longer needed and I don’t think that will ever be the case,” he quips.
Esmé totally agrees with her husband. This shared belief and conviction has seen them donating blood for many years, and consequently growing very close to the friendly and helpful staff of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).
They have all become family!
