Health Department embarks on major campaign aimed at kids

The KZN Health Department is embarking on a major immunisation drive for children in the district.
The campaign will target measles, polio, nutritional screening, deworming and Vit A. Divided into two rounds, the first round commenced this week and will go through to the end of the month.
The second round will start on October 31 and last until November 11.
The first round will be for measles, nutritional screening and Vit A while the second round will only target polio and deworming.
The KZN Health Department in Umzinyathi has urged parents of children aged between six months and 59 months in the first round to bring along their Road to Health cards to their nearest health facility during this period i.e. hospitals, mobile points and immunisation points. The service is available during the above time periods from 7am to 4pm.
The second round is for children aged 0-59 months.
“The purpose of this campaign is to prevent diseases like measles and polio.
“The initiative also includes education on worm infestation and Vit A drops necessary for the healthy growth and the development of our children.
“These will also enable us to identify children suffering from malnutrition and make referrals where necessary,” a Department spokesman said.
