Endumeni’s green approach earns first prize in Arbour City competition
"This is putting our municipality on the map for the right reason" - Mayor Mbatha
Endumeni’s commitment to going green and ensuring that indigenous trees and plants are given preference over alien vegetation was awarded when the municipality received first prize in the Arbour City award in the rural municipality category, 2016.
This is the first time that Endumeni has received this award.
Acting municipal manager, M Silinga, said the award is in’ recognition of the efforts that the municipality has put in promoting environmental and greening matters and also addresses the major concern of climate change.’
A cheque of R250 000 was presented to the municipality which will go towards the ongoing environmental programme.
Former Mayor, Thulani Mahaye, thanked all officials from the municipality who had worked so hard to achieve this goal.
This sentiment was echoed by Mayor Richard Mbatha who congratulated all involved. “This is putting our municipality on the map for the right reason,” he said.
