Three decades of service to Red Cross

Annemarie Scheepers has dedicated herself to the community for almost 30 years.

For nearly three decades, Annemarie Scheepers has dedicated her life to Red Cross and the Newcastle community.

“I have been with Red Cross for 29 years now, and while some days I wonder if I am on the right path, I truly love my job.”

Mrs Scheepers began her journey of service when her ex husband and a close friend of theirs asked her for help.

She initially did administrative work, but soon took on more responsibilities.

“I became a first aid instructor, was and still am part of the local disaster management team and rendered first aid at sporting events.”

She often took her three children with her to sporting events.

“If there was an injury, I would run onto the field, with my youngest son holding a bag of ice, ready to help,” she laughed.

Mrs Scheepers is also the coordinator of a Red Cross Project, which started in 2010. The project reaches out to Aids and TB patients, and orphans who lost their parents due to the diseases.

Devoted to her career and driven to help others, Mrs Scheepers dreams of opening a charity shop to generate funds for the Red Cross, and where the less fortunate can purchase items at an affordable price.

Red Cross is a non governmental organisation and relies heavily on funding and assistance from the community.

“We need any form of donation, from clothing for orphans to food.”

If anyone would like to contribute to Red Cross, they can contact the office on 034 312 1736.
