WhatsApp takes a swipe at Snapchat

More 'stuff' you did not know you needed till all your friends started using it...

WhatsApp has introduced new ways to customize and enhance the photos and videos you share with friends and family around the world.

“With WhatsApp’s new camera features, you can now write or draw on photos and videos, as well as add ’emoji’ to express yourself,” explains WhatsApp in a blog released on Monday.

Obviously, with roll-out delays worldwide and Africa being on the bottom of the “must get now list”, expect these features sometime later in the week in South Africa.

So what will we eventually get? Well, basically WhatsApp’s answer to Snapchat, we guess…

“When you capture a new photo or video or share one that’s already on your phone, you’ll automatically see the new editing tools. Whether you’re drawing a big red heart to show how much you miss someone or adding your favourite emoji, sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words,” say the gurus at WhatsApp.

You can also try adding text too, and change the colour and font style. Totally mind-blowing, right?

As always, updates and features are all about market share and the mighty dollar!

But there is more…

The WhatsApp camera feature now supports the front-facing flash, so you can take the perfect selfie. In low light and at night, this will brighten up your screen and improve the quality of your photo.

A convenient zooming feature for recording videos has been added. You just have to slide your finger up and down to zoom in and out.

And to quickly switch between front and rear facing cameras, double tap on the screen.

We give this a #Awesome rating, because well, we like WhatsApp and Snapchat is for children, right?

The new camera features started being rolled out on Android phones on Monday and they are promised on iPhone soon.
