Post Office claims ‘no staff shortage’ despite street delivery hiccups
They said a 'mailman was seen cycling in the area but simply sailed by without stopping to deliver letters'.
The SA Post Office has denied claims that a staff shortage at the Dundee P.O. has resulted in mail piling up undelivered at the Beaconsfield Street branch.
Residents in especially the Tandy Street/Mc Kenzie Street areas said they had not received street deliveries since around March.
“When questioned, staff at the Dundee Post Office said there was a shortage of mailmen and that’s why we had not received anything. So we are collecting it ourselves which is far from ideal and can easily result in post getting mislaid,” said Mrs M Peddie.
Another resident, Kevin Ross, said he had been waiting for a letter containing insurance policy details since March.
They said a ‘mailman was seen cycling in the area but simply sailed by without stopping to deliver letters’.
In a statement from Durban, Reggie Naidoo, Manager Mail delivery, claimed that the mail processing service in Dundee is up to date with no shortage of manpower.
“We would like to investigate the reasons for service failure more closely, and we, therefore, request the readers of your newspaper to send an e-mail to our customer service centre at socialmedia@postoffice.co.za. They should include their postal addresses so that we can monitor the mail delivery service to their homes.
“The SA Post Office welcomes all feedback from our customers – it is one of our most important methods of quality control. We would also like to thank your readers for bringing this issue to our attention.”
