Tannie Rina celebrates her centenary

Mrs de Jager now lives with her son and her family describe her as an inspiration to all.

Rina de Jager yesterday marked her 100th birthday with friends and family in Dundee.  This remarkable lady, who still enjoys good health, was born Rina Swart on October 9, 1916, in Frankfort in the Free State.

When she was seven, the family moved to Newcastle where she schooled.  In 1938 she participated in the symbolic Great Trek centenary at Blood River.

In 1939 she married Chris de Jager a farmer in the Dannhauser district.  They had one son, Martin, and later two grandsons and a granddaughter.

In 1955 the family moved to Dundee where Mrs de Jager worked for 15 years at the then Boswell’s General Dealers.  Her  husband died in 1985. Mrs de Jager now lives with her son and her family describe her as an inspiration to all.

Congratulations Tannie Rina.
