Heavy sentence handed down to three murderers

They accused him of witchcraft and the three men savegely assaulted the defenceless man.

Three men aged 26, 28 and 35 will be spending the next 15 years behind bars after being convicted of murder. Paya Siphamandla Mihabela (26), Sandile Themba Mlotshwa (28) and Mingisi Mkhadibo (35) were responsible for the untimely death of Bongani Khuzwayo (35) and were charged with murder. They were also denied bail, while the investigation took its course and was finalized in the Ezakheni Regional court recently. They will also not be granted licences to possess firearms.

The incident took place during December 2014 in the Limehill area of Ekuvukeni. The accused were returning from a tavern in the area when they came across Bongani Khuzwayo (35). One of them accused him of witchcraft and began to assault him. The assault escalated with all three savagely beating the defenceless man. The severely injured man was left for dead. He was later discovered by residents of the area but passed away before medical help could arrive.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa hailed the brilliant work by the Ekuvukeni detectives and their dedication that led to the sentencing of these accused who showed no mercy when killing an innocent and defenceless man. “ We cannot allow people to take law into their own hands in this Province, this conviction will send a clear message if you a caught doing so you will be charged” he said.
