Swift move by K9 officers leads to arrest for unlicensed firearm
Officers swooped on a house in the Hobsland area and arrested a 36-year-old man
A man was arrested in the Hobsland area in the early hours of Thursday morning (November 3) as a result of K9 officers following up on information received earlier that night concerning suspects involved in a tavern shooting.
The information received was a description of the vehicle used in a tavern shooting in the Mziyonke area of Ezakheni. Two men were brutally gunned down and killed in what is suspected to be a business robbery.
Officers swooped on a house in the Hobsland area and arrested a 36-year-old man.
The man was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition. The officers also recovered ammunition belonging to another calibre of firearm.
The suspect is due to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (November 4), facing charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as ammunition.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa praised the Ladysmith K9 Unit for recovering the unlicensed firearm. “Police in the province are on the lookout for anyone in possession of unlicensed firearms that are being used to commit crimes in our society ,” he said.
