Honouring anglers of Breakwaters Club

The guest of honour was renowned South African angler, Loutjie Louwies and his wife

The much anticipated 25th anniversary celebration of Breakwaters Angling Club was an event to behold and cherish.
The elegant venue, the Style and Grace Wedding Venue, was packed to capacity. The guest of honour was renowned South African angler, Loutjie Louwies and his wife. Loutjie is the presenter of the well known, “Vaskap” and “Fishing 365” television series. He has been a member of the South African team which won the Carp World Championships on four occasions.

The crowd was entertained by Durban’s top band, Men in Black. President of the Club, Matthew Shunmugam, gave a brief overview of the formation of the club in 1991 and its achievements over the past 25 years. It was also an occasion to recognise the star performers for the season 2015/2016. The club also received eight new floating trophies from its various donors.

An informative souvenir brochure was distributed recapping the history of the club over the past 25 years. Loutjie’s theme centred on the importance of sharing knowledge, tips and combinations which work even during competitive angling. He encouraged Breakwaters to continue their winning ways and stated that he was pleasantly surprised at the standard at which the Club had elevated the sport.

The high flyers for the season 2015/2016 were Terence Chetty (heaviest scaled and non scaled); Vicky Bhooli (heaviest scaly); Uthveer Buduram (heaviest eel); Ethan Burger (rare specie and Junior Angler of the Year); Roshan Ramphal (social outing champion – scaled); Sikander Amod (social outing champion – non scaled); Shane Mangaroo (Internal KO Champion); Monty Slabbert (Highest Point Scorer and Knock Out Champion); Ossie Oosthuizen (Champion of Champions); Shakeel Sheik (Grand Challenge Champion); Talia Boodhoo (Lady Angler of the Year); Kidd Rampersadh (Senior Angler of the Year); the Knock Out Doubles Champion were Kaveer and Ashvir Singh while Kaveer Singh had an outstanding season both in Breakwaters and the APL winning the League Champion; Most Fish Caught and the most coveted “Angler of the Year” awards.
