Corporate Golf Classic hits the jackpot with 160 players

One hundred and sixty players, not only enjoyed their day on the golf course, but were also treated to a scrumptious spit braai dinner and live music during the evening

The annual Dundee Corporate Classic Golf Day, now in its seventh year, once again proved to be a very successful day on Friday with 41 teams competing in this event. One hundred and sixty players, not only enjoyed their day on the golf course, but were also treated to a scrumptious spit braai dinner and live music during the evening.

Danie Von Mollendorff and his Black Rock Casino team took first place in the Corporate Classic.  Their team included Umesh Karsan, Danie Von Mollendorff, Willie Maritz and Dr Maharaj. Danie Von Mollendorff and his team from Black Rock Casino were the eventual winners on the day with a net score of 53, and each of the four players walked away with a great first prize valued at over R2 000. Finishing in second position, just one shot behind the winners, was the Deb’s Embroidery team on a net 54 who were also just one shot ahead of the third-placed Northern Natal Courier team. The novelty prizes for nearest the pin on the par 3’s went to, D Von Mollendorff on hole no. 4, N Solms on hole no. 8, H Goosen on hole no.12 and B Jewaskiewitz on the 16th hole. The committee and members of Dundee Country Club thanks all local businesses who contributed in making this day a huge success.

On Saturday, the Sibongile Society held a fund raising golf day which attracted some 30 golfers to their I.P.S. competition, and winning the day on an exceptionally good score of 45 individual points was G Ngubane. Second position went to S Sithole on 42 points and coming in third place was M Mthethwa on 40 points. Novelty prizes for nearest the pin on the par 3’s went to, W Ackermann on hole no. 4, B Francis on hole no. 8, B Mlangeni on hole no. 12 and J Khumalo on the 16th hole.

On Sunday, four Dundee teams travelled down to Ladysmith Country Club to compete in the Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal Men’s Golf Inter-Club, which was followed by their Annual General Meeting. Congratulations to the Dundee ‘B’ league team of S Kunene, M Mthethwa and C Mkhwanazi who performed very well to win their division. The ‘A’ team finished third in their division with the Frog ‘1’ team of W Ackermann, K Donaldson and S Sithole being runners-up in their respective division. The A.G.M. was well attended by representatives from Dundee, and the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Golf Executive Committee for 2017 was elected, Chairman: Johan Hugo (Kilbarchan G.C.), Secretary: Barry Sandy (Dundee C.C.) and Treasurer; Corné Van Deventer (Vryheid G.C.).
This coming weekend’s fixtures: Saturday, December 3, The Endumeni Mayoral Golf Day which is a 4 BBBS event and on Sunday is the Mayibuye Golf Day, an individual medal competition.
