DESPITE the fact that 2016 was a very challenging year with many difficulties to overcome. There were, as always, many inspiring and positive events and incidents that made it a great year. Staff were asked to share what they experienced as a highlight of this year. Here are their responses:
Mr J Fourie: The benefits of the school wellness program for the learners is what he appreciated the most.
Mrs N Mentz: The cultural festival which we held to celebrate Heritage Day was inspiring and beautiful to her as it emphasized that despite our cultural differences, we are united by our humanity!
Mrs K Nieuwenhuizen is happy about the Grade 8 Afrikaans medium class of next year which already has 31 learners enrolled.
For Mrs M le Roux, it was the fact that the staff we lost during the year were soon replaced with competent educators.
Mr R Grobler enjoyed the staff function last week at The Red Robin which was a very pleasant and relaxing event.
Mrs K Feather loved the 2016 leaders’ camp as it was well-organised and a great deal of fun.
Mrs D Struwig was touched that one of her learners who had a very difficult time coping with depression and life in general could, at the end of this year, write the following on her wall: Happiness is a choice and I choose to be happy!
Despite the fact that it has rained, we still need to use water sparingly! So here are a few water saving tips for the holiday:
In and around the house
Turn the tap off between washing your face, brushing your teeth or shaving.
Taking a five-minute shower a day, instead of a bath, will use a third of the water used bathing in a bath tub, saving up to 400 litres a week..
Kettles should not be filled to the brim but with just enough water for your needs. This will reduce your electricity bill too.
Don’t over-fill containers like cooking pots, as this may result in using more energy to heat the water.
Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Every time you flush the toilet, 12 litres of water is used.
Use ‘grey water’ – used water from baths, washing machines and other safe sources – to flush your toilet.
People living in rural areas should be careful not to use the river or river bank as a toilet.
We wish everyone a safe and rejuvenating holiday and a blessed Xmas. May we build on all the good of this year in 2017!
