Burst pipe at Mnambithi TVET College

The leak has been in existence for about two weeks now

Considering the persistent drought and uThukela releasing a statement saying they will be forced to shut off the water supply for 19 hours a day, Ladysmith residents say the town cannot afford to have burst water pipes go unattended.

Inside the premises of Mnambith TVET College lies a burst water pipe out of which thousands of litres of water is running freely. The leak has been in existence for about two weeks now.

“When I contacted the municipality, a lady said she’d report the matter and have somebody come and fix the pipe, but in the two weeks of complaining, nobody from the municipality has come to fix it,” said a concerned drought sufferer.

“As we are currently facing drought conditions and having water cuts in residential areas, burst pipes raise a major concern to the people of Ladysmith. This kind of thing should be fixed pronto to save the town’s water. It’s a precious resource, is it not, and yet the ‘powers that be’ can just stand by and watch it go to waste for weeks on end. How is this acceptable?” said another resident.
