Burst pipe fills yard with water

Worried about the water being wasted, Mr Vawda tried to call the municipality and was only able to speak to them after 30 minutes of trying

Thousands of litres of water have gone to waste after a burst pipe flooded a yard in Van Riebeeck Park. The water was seen running down into the street.

After calling a plumber, homeowner Mr Vawda found out that it was not an internal burst, which means the water pipe belongs to uThukela District Municipality.

Worried about the water being wasted, Mr Vawda tried to call the municipality and was only able to speak to them after 30 minutes of trying.

“The water has been running heavily and freely since 9.30am this morning and after 30 minutes of trying to get municipal engineers to come and have a look, a lady from the municipality asked for our reference number. However, no one has since come to fix it or even have a look,” says Mr Vawda.

The family in Kleinman Crescent claim that the burst pipe belongs to the municipality and that the water runs into their yard, pushing up the paving and filling the entire yard with water.
