One killed and one critical after bakkie crashes into tree

A white bakkie veered off the road and crashed into a tree, trapping the driver inside the vehicle, whilst a passenger was ejected

A tragic accident unfolded on the R103 near Chievely on Saturday afternoon.

A white bakkie veered off the road and crashed into a tree, trapping the driver inside the vehicle, whilst a passenger was ejected. When emergency services arrived on scene, they found that both people were in a critical condition.

The driver was extricated from the bakkie and treated for the critical injuries he sustained. Paramedics found the man lying next to the vehicle also in a critical condition.

“He was treated and transported by ER24. His condition deteriorated while in hospital and he had to be resuscitated,” commented ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth.

Despite efforts to revive the man, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
