Flamingo Street brought to ground

The DA councillor is frustrated with a lack of response to her correspondence with the municipality regarding problems plaguing Flamingo Street in Aviary Hill.

AVIARY HILL – Ward 2 Councillor, Bebsie Cronje is at her wits’ end.

The DA councillor is frustrated with a lack of response to her correspondence with the municipality regarding problems plaguing Flamingo Street in Aviary Hill.

She spoke on the situation in a meeting earlier this month.

“On the Flamingo Street corner there are stacks of bricks; they have been stacked there for almost three years.”

Cllr Cronje said she contacted the municipality for intervention because the bricks are on the sidewalk, partially obstructing the view of the road.

She also sent numerous emails, to be forwarded to the property owner.

“The bricks are being stolen by people and the property is in a poor state.”

Another area of concern is near the Victoria Drive intersection – an access road leading to the reservoir has resulted in mud building up on the surface of Flamingo Street.

This has the potential to cause a collision.

“The rain washes gravel and mud onto both Flamingo Street and Victoria Drive.”

Cllr Cronje said she had accompanied high-ranking municipal officials on a drive through her ward, identifying problems still unattended to.

To date, she had seen nothing of the changes promised.

The matters raised by Cllr Cronje were then communicated to the municipality through its official channels, for urgent intervention.

No response was given at the time of going to print.

“I just want my constituents to know I am still trying to do something about this problem.”
