The sight of rotting food is one thing, but tolerating the stench from it every single day can become a nauseating start to your day. This is what some shop owners and staff in Alexandra Street have had to deal with for months.
A small business operating as a take-away is allegedly dumping their waste food in an illegal manner. The discarded food is thrown out into an entrance of a large supermarket.
The blocked drain is also aggravating the problem and a shop owner from the area says it has reached unbearable levels. He has personally contacted the local Health Department but has not received any response.
“We have called Health Department with regards to the stink of rotting food and drainage system that has been blocked for months. The department did not respond to our first two calls and during the third call we were given a cell number, which has not been answered,” said the shop owner.
Thus far no response has been received from the authorities in response this specific matter as well as to procedures about dumping or the consequences store owners face if caught illegally dumping.
