School learners are allegedly making a resident’s life miserable.
Living in Asnika Crescent, Suryaville, the resident claimed she had been targeted by a group of learners from a nearby school.
“They have been throwing sticks and logs into my yard, tormenting my dog and have even gone as far as throw stones at my two-year-old daughter,” she said.
At her wit’s end, she recently confronted the children and asked them to refrain from their actions.
“But all they did, was scream and swear at me. I have never heard such vulgar language come from primary school children before.”
Uncertain why the children are acting this way towards her, the resident said she did not know what to do anymore.
Police Communication Liaison Officer, Lizzy Arumugam, said the resident could make a statement at the police station and a case could be registered.
“If the action of children amounts to a criminal case, then charges can be laid against the children.”
She said that would depend on their ages.
“Between the ages 10 and 14, charges can be pressed but it does not necessarily mean the child will immediately be arrested. It will depend on the seriousness of the offence and whether or not there are compelling reasons to arrest the child. The child can be handed over to their parent or guardian,” Ms Arumugam explained.
She advised the community to report such incidents to the police.
