UDM announces water tanker reduction following summer rain
Municipality no longer needs to continuously utilise water tankers

During the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 financial years, the Umzinyathi District municipality implemented a drought relief programme.
This entailed entailed the rehabilitation and drilling of boreholes in a bid to reduce the number of water tankers needed to transport water to rural communities.
Nomonde Nzimakwe, communications manager at Umzinyathi, said a service provider was appointed and the following boreholes were drilled and repaired at Nquthu Local Municipality and Msinga Local Municipality. Msinga: 327 Boreholes, 81 boreholes new installations, 246 boreholes rehabilitated. Nquthu: 517 boreholes, 120 boreholes new installations, 397 boreholes rehabilitated.
“The completion of the implementation of this programme and the welcome summer rains has meant the municipality has to reconsider the continuous utilisation of water tankers.
“One of the strategies to be employed is the reduction of the current water tankers from 50 to 23 water tankers from January 1.
These will be distributed as follows: Endumeni Local Municipality will have two water tankers; Nquthu Local Municipality will have five water tankers; Msinga Local Municipality will have ten water tankers and Mvoti local municipality will have six water tankers.”
Endumeni Local Municipality: The two water tankers are to be distributed as follows: At Ebusi, Mpilonde, Jimane Uithoek and Kunene Farm every Monday and Thursday. In De Jagersdrift, Ekuvukeni, Elizabeth Farm, Esxhabeni area and Ntibane, the two tankers will be distributed on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Sunday, Ebusi, Thelaphi and De Jagesdrift.
Nquthu Local Municipality: Five water tankers will deliver water in the following rural areas around Nquthu: Nhlabamkhosi, Vumankala, Mhlungwana will be distributed on Monday.
On Tuesday it is the areas, Hlazakazi and Emaceba. On Wednesday its Ntinini, Machitshana, Nhlopheni, GG, Mayicentele and KwaNamu. Thursday its, Ngolokodo, Ngcepheni, Haladu and Mphazima. Friday its KwaNqulu and Qhudeni areas. Saturday, Mfongomfongo, Sunrise and Shayamoya. Sunday, St John Mission and Ohaleni.
Msinga Local Municipality: Ten water tankers will deliver water in the following rural areas around Msinga: Monday: Douglas, Mkuzeni, Mumbe, Debedebeni and Mpompolwane. Monday and Sunday: Mozane, Rorke’s Drift, Mambeni, Nkelekehle and Buyafuthi. Tuesday: Bahulazi, Umngen, Ntili, Esifuleni, Ngubukazi, Makhankane, Ekalishini, Nkambe, Matshematshe, Mazabeko, Mahlaba, Qinelani and Eyibomvini. Wednesday: Nxamalala, Galbasi, Nteneshane, Ntanyana, Nogida, Kopi, Jijingwenya, Kwangxongo, Etafeni, Kwalatha, Keates Drift, Ntabande, Nyonini and Mawozeni. Thursday: Mathinta, Ngongolo, Mathengwenya, Mhlangane Ophansi, Ezihlabeni, Mbangweni, Mkhovini, Ebhiriya, Nondela, Eswidi, Ophathe, Mxeleni, Thembela, Ngwadeni and Okhulani. Friday: Mkhuphula, Mfenebude, Nzala, Enhlonga, Gubevu, Gxobanyawo, Burnhill, Eyngulubeni, Mbono, Emsizini, Othobithini, Nocomboshe, Mawele, Pano and Othame. Saturday: Bahulazi, Umngeni, Ntili, Esifuleni, Ngubukazi, Makhankane, Ekalishini, Enkamba and Matshematshe. Sunday: Entekeni, Tukulwane, Ezimbidleni and Emthaleni.
Mvoti Local Municipality: Six water tankers will deliver water in the following rural areas: Monday and Friday: Mbulwane, Doremy, Mashayinyoni, Ntembisweni, Eshane, Lilani and Eythulini. Monday and Saturday: KwaSenge, Nadi, Ngubevu and Mbuba.
Tuesday and Sunday: Nseleni, Kranskop, Ezinkawini, Esinyambothi, Makhabeleni and Gcothoyi.Wednesday:
Mudeni, Esihlabeni, Ophathe and Ngome. Thursday: Njengabatu, Mdlelantu, Mispar, Seven Oakes, Emakhuzeni and Nkanini.
