PRESIDENT of the Vryheid Lions Club, Ryan Seegers (41), tragically took his own life on December 27.

His passing came as a shock to friends and family who described him as a hard-working and jovial person, who always looked for the light-hearted side to any situation.

Ryan was born in Ladysmith and moved to Vryheid as a child with his two brothers, his mum, Jenny Seegers (former office manager of the Vryheid Herald), and his dad, Neville Seegers (former President of the Vryheid Lions Club).

After matriculating from Vryheid High School, he began work in the construction industry.

As a member of the Lions Club, Ryan was committed to making a difference in the lives of the vulnerable and underprivileged.

He was one of the organisers of the Mayfair, the profits of which have benefited community organisation such as Child Welfare, the SPCA, CMD and W.A.T.C.H.

Peter Mossop, the Club’s treasurer, said one of his favourite memories of Ryan was when he and Ladysmith Lion’s member, Kevin Prinsloo, happily belted out the lyrics to ‘I’ve got you babe’ at a karaoke function hosted by the Club.

“I have known Ryan for a good number of years and we had some good times together. He was a funny guy and always made a joke about everything. He is going to be missed by the Lions,” said Mr Mossop.
