Meat discarded in Alexandra Street

After a hot day, the odour and insects increases

The sight, stench and health hazard that fresh meat lying discarded on a pavement poses has triggered concern for an Estcourt resident.

In Alexandra Street one may notice that informal traders discard waste meat on the pavement. After a hot day, the odour and insects increases.

Ronald Harilal, who observed this, says that traders who sell these products should be educated and disciplined about the whether the by-laws permit this trading and dumping.

Mr Harilal was disturbed by the dumping of the meat and commented: “Look what’s happening on our lovely streets of Estcourt. This is supposed to be a new South Africa. The previous government would not have allowed such. I prefer the old government.”

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality received questions pertaining to by-laws and highlighting the resident’s concerns as well as the photographs, no response was received.
