PICS: Oval track racers take to the course

Isone Bester came first in the Women's race, and nine-year-old Stephan van der Merwe came second. Zaakira Khan followed closely, passing the finish line in third place.

Whistling turbos, bright floodlights, and clouds of dust filled the Newcastle Oval Track Race Course on Saturday, February 4. Exhilarated racers showed off their skills, as their roaring engines sped through the tracks.

Leonie van Rooyen came first in the Go-Karts race, and Raeesa Cassim and Shakeela Ameer followed in second and third place, respectively.

Isone Bester came first in the Women’s race, and nine-year-old Stephan van der Merwe came second. Zaakira Khan followed closely, passing the finish line in third place.

The 1600 division was won by Dulla Jamalodeen. Ali Jamalodeen came second, and Eugene Coetzer got third place.

Roux van der Colff was first in the 1660 division, Pieter Bester came second, and Shaukat Khan won third place.

Pieter Bester Senior, Shaukat Khan, and Flip Gericke won first, second and third place respectively in the 2.0-litre division.

The Hot Rod race champion was Hendrik van der Merwe. Second place was taken by Jean de Necker, and Wilma Lindeque came third.

Wimpie Bezuidenhout won the Tin Tops category, Boet Buys came second, and JP Bruin took third place.
