Update: Armed robbery at OK Grocer supermarket in Delhi Road, Ladysmith

Held at gunpoint, the men took the women's cell-phones and safe keys

A group of armed robbers are on the run after robbing an OK Grocer supermarket in Delhi Road this morning (March 22).

Two of the criminals gained entry by posing as normal customers, joining up with an accomplice who was waiting for them near the offices.

Once the men arrived, CCTV footage shows an accomplice appearing to lead the robbers up the stairs towards the Cash Room.

The robbers stormed into the room…

Caught by surprise, two women who were packing the cash box which was set to be picked up by a security company were shocked when the door opened and their worst nightmare became a reality.

Held at gunpoint, the thugs took the women’s cell-phones and safe keys.

Shaken and terrified for their lives, the women complied with the robbers.

They helped themselves to the cash box filled with money. Before leaving, the two women were locked in the safe.

The three robbers then fled the scene in a grey Golf.

In an exclusive interview with the manager of the OK Grocer, Mr AK Moola, he was quoted as saying, “Luckily the robbers did not lock the safe and the two women managed to force the door open, freeing themselves. I’m just really glad no one was injured.”

Shaken and traumatised, the women ran down the stairs and alerted management of the robbery.

Customers and staff were asked to exit the building.

As panic set in, everybody ran out.

No injuries were reported. However, the staff were traumatised.

The K9 Unit, TRT, CIG and police responded to the armed robbery. The officers looked through the security footage and combed the scene for clues.

With tyres screeching, the team of officers made their way to the home of one of the suspects.

Surrounding the building, the officers hunted for the man. However, the house was locked.

A massive manhunt is underway for the three suspects. Be on the lookout (BOLO) for a grey Golf with ND registration.

Police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
