#MandelaDay – Making an impact in memory of Madiba

“It makes me feel so bad to know that young children and their grandparent are going through difficult times,” says Vusi, “while people in authority are enjoying what Mandela fought for.”

“Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We’re asking you to start with 67 minutes.”

This is the message for the Mandela Day campaign and Vusi Ndaba and his dedicated team from Golden Peak Spur certainly took this profound statement to heart on Tuesday as they visited Bhekuzulu Old Age Home and a Bhekuzulu orphanage on Mandela Day, which took place on July 18, the birthday of the icon, Madiba.

The Spur team visited an orphanage in Bhekuzulu with treats for the children.

The Spur team treated the residents of the old age home and the orphanage to delicious burgers and chips, along with refreshments and spent some time in their company.

Mandela Day is meant to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s former President, and his values, through volunteering and community service, which is an ideal that Vusi and his team are well-known for.

“This meant so much to us,” he adds, “as it was for Mandela.”
