Sharing a heart at Gold(ing)
Little did they expect the heart -warming welcome they received on their arrival. Smiles, songs, hugs and dancing had the PGP women in tears.
On a beautiful KwaZulu-Natal winter’s morning the women of Pam Golding Properties (PGP) set off to bring happiness to the residents oSizweni Centre of Hope (OCH) for Mandela Day.
Little did they expect the heart -warming welcome they received on their arrival. Smiles, songs, hugs and dancing had the PGP women in tears.
In the heart of oSizweni, a beacon of hope existed for the abandoned. No matter who you are or your age, house mother, Nomusa Khumalo offered a warm smile, a hug, warm food and shelter.
The shelter is a large warehouse slowly being transformed into a facility that cares for the young and old with help from private sponsors and Majuba Rotary Club.
Without regular subsidies or grants from government, the shelter needed all the help it could get.
A group of enthusiastic oSizweni High School learners greeted the PGP with exuberance, and immediately offered assistance to offload groceries, bags of mielie meal and a birthday cake.
The learners treated PGP and OCH residents to a well rehearsed comedy much to everyone’s delight and much laughter.
The laughter bubbled over into song and dance and soon PGP were being coached in the art of Zulu dance, and thus culminated in a demonstration by a fun- loving “gogo”.
PGP then cut the cake to celebrate Madiba’s birthday and served services to all, making sure that even the tiniest tot, still in nappies, received a piece.
“Thank you so much for the warm welcoming. We hope this small gift from us will help in some way. Happy Mandela Day,” said Sam Wade, PGP principal, to the residents.
Before bidding farewell, Nomusa showed the PGP ladies around, and Wade said it was humbling to see how much had been achieved with so little at the shelter.
PGP left knowing for certain that this shelter, its residents and its guardian, Nomusa Khumalo, had crept into their hearts and that they would not be strangers to OCH.
Pam Golding Properties Newcastle will be collecting blankets, pillows, linen and mattresses for the shelter, and are appealing to the community of Newcastle to kindly donate what they can.
Donations can be dropped off at the Pam Golding offices, 70 Victoria Road, Hutten Heights.
