Pankaj sings his way into local hearts

It takes a brave person to leave their home, move across the world to a new country and start a life there.
But for Pankaj Soni, the risk of leaving behind everything he knew, has paid off.

Originally from Jaipur in the north of India, Pankaj moved to Dannhauser four years ago, and is now a singing sensation.

From the early age of 11, Pankaj fell in love with singing after attending shows as a youngster, but never did he dream that he would get a chance to do it as a profession.

Performing in India was an experience to remember. However, since moving to South Africa, he has wowed local crowds with his vocal prowess. While he may only sing in Hindi, he mixes it up between new Bollywood hits and Golden Oldies.

“Who doesn’t love a golden oldie,” he said.

Pankaj chooses his playlist depending on the function he’s asked to sing at, but also plays people’s requests. While he has to practice the newer songs, it only takes a few attempts before he gets it right. Singing isn’t his only talent though. Pankaj is a professional jeweller and also an electronic technician and comes from a family of jewellers.

He left the family business to follow his passion and isn’t looking back.
“I have my heart set on bigger stages and bigger crowds and I’m going to achieve it.”
