Wasbank Clinic takes healthcare to the community
The Open Day promoted and marketed the roles and services of the clinic to the gathered community

It was all about bringing health care to the people and educating them on the services offered at the clinic when Wasbank Clinic hosted an Open Day.
The Open Day, which was held at the local hall, promoted and marketed the roles and services of the clinic to the gathered community.
Numerous stake holders, including the Department of Social Development, the secretary of the War Room and the local councillor, Sibonokuhle Zwane were invited to speak. Staff of the clinic also addressed the gathered community on the importance of family planning, dental hygiene and eating healthy.

There was also health services available for the community including TB testing and a dentist who was on hand to deal with all the dental needs.
The dental hygenist, Lungi Mahlobo, gave an informative talk on why people need to take oral health seriously.
“You get people born without arms or legs but never without a mouth, that’s how important it is,” she said. She went on to show the crowd how to brush effectively, which meant not only brushing the teeth but included the tongue, gums and palette.

She also advised people that they didn’t have to overload the toothbrush with toothpaste, saying that a little bit would do the same job.

The people gathered also were treated to a meal courtesy of Nombusa Ngcobo from the Foundation for Human Rights (FHR).

While the Open Day is a yearly initiative, the knowledge and services passed down to the community will last them for a lot longer.
