WATCH: Newcastle’s tourism boosted through SABC 2

With the support given to the Amajuba District by those in leadership positions, such as MEC Zikalala, Amajuba District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane said the necessary tools were now passed on to local leadership to ensure tourism was taken to the next level.

Newcastle was in the limelight on Friday, September 14, when SABC 2 broadcast its Morning Live Show from Fort Amiel Museum.

The show formed the launch of the Tourism Month celebrations.

It was organised by Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, Amajuba District Municipality, KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs under the leadership of MEC Sihle Zikalala, with the purpose of promoting tourism.

At Fort Amiel Museum, South Africa had the opportunity to learn more about Newcastle’s historical roots, the diverse cultures which called the town home and what made it so special to the people who lived here.

Amajuba District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane said he was elated about the opportunity to show off  Newcastle and the Amajuba District on such a large platform, and therefore large audience.

“Amajuba has risen and it is safe to say tourism will never be the same again for the area,” he said.

With the support given to the Amajuba District by those in leadership positions, such as MEC Zikalala, Dr Ngubane said the necessary tools were now passed on to local leadership to ensure tourism was taken to the next level.

He believed with a strengthening economy and growing tourism that went hand in hand, he had high hopes for Newcastle and its neighbouring towns.

Following the Morning Live broadcast, the tourism celebrations moved to Vulintaba Country Estate. Guests enjoyed a display put on by the Dundee Diehards and Zulu warriors during the Anglo-Zulu War period.

They were also informed about the importance of tourism and the role it played within the economy and how it united people from all walks of life.
