IFP retains Ward 3 after hotly contested by-election

IFP, DA and EFF coalition will still rule the roost

The IFP won the hotly contested Ward 3 by-election in Sithembile to retain the seat they won from the ANC in August 2016.

The IFP won 1582 votes, the ANC 1308, the EFF 111 and the NFP just seven.

Thabane Penuel Mlotshwa is the new  Councillor for the Ward which became vacant when the IFP sacked their Councillor, S Zitha, after he was accused of colluding with the ANC.

The other candidates were:

Mathula Innocent Nkosi of the African National Congress (ANC); Vincent Mbuso Ntombela of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Mfanafuthi Caiphas Ntsele of the National Freedom Party.

The result confirms that Mayor Mbatha of the IFP with the DA and EFF coalition will retain power.
