Criminals set free after being caught in the act

Following a burglary in Bree Street two perpetrators were apprehended by members of Neighbourhood Watch and Pro5.

Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch, along with the SAPS, responded to a burglary in Bree Street on Saturday afternoon.

The two perpetrators were apprehended by members of Neighbourhood Watch and Pro5 in Emmett Street between Smal and Commissioner Street and subsequently turned over to the police.

Despite the efforts of Neighbourhood Watch and other relevant participants, it was later revealed that the two perpetrators were allegedly set free. This could be due to the fact that no charges were laid against the burglars.

When requesting the assistance of Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch, it is imperative to understand that without following the necessary procedure of reporting the crime to the police, there is very little point in calling out the patrolling members, who generally drop everything to assist, because the criminals will not be detained, the crime will not go on record and the time spent catching the criminals has been wasted.

If you request the assistance of Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch, make sure that you follow up by opening a case at Vryheid SAPS.
