Newcastle K9 Unit officials put on a display for learners.

In order to create a safer future for children, Newcastle’s emergency personnel visited Drakensberg Primary School recently.

Newcastle SAPS Communications Department, in conjunction with Public Order Police, Newcastle K9 Unit, Community Safety Department, Fire Department, ER24 Ambulance Service, Correctional Services and Red Cross addressed the learners.

Learners were educated on the consequences of drugs, skipping school and accepting money and gifts from strangers.

The children were also encouraged to come forward when faced with problems.

“They can approach are parents, teachers and the police. They must not fear the police, because they are there to serve and protect the community,” said Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube.

The Public Order Police, K9 Unit, ER24 and Fire Department entertained the learners by performing a demonstration.
