Chamber promotes economic development
Consul-General Wang arrived in town on October 28 and, along with his delegation, visited several factories in the area.
In an attempt to encourage economic development in Newcastle, Chinese Consul-General, Wang Jianzhou spent two days in town, interacting with the Chinese community.
“I visit Newcastle regularly to see how the Chinese community is doing, as security is always a major concern. A prerequisite for economic development, is through stability and security being in place,” he said.
After the Chinese community was heavily targeted by crime last year, Wang said he was pleased to see the community was working in tandem with the SAPS to reduce the incidents of violent crime.
“Things have changed for the better since the establishment of Newcastle Chinese Community and Policing Co-operation, which worked with the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the police.”
Consul-General Wang arrived in town on October 28 and, along with his delegation, visited several factories in the area.
“I was happy to see how large the factories were, as it is an investment in the town. Each of these factories employs an average of 200 people or more, which helps boost the local economy.” While he commended Chinese residents for their efforts, Consul-General Wang believed the Newcastle Municipality and SAPS needed to be thanked as well.
“I hope they continue to support the Chinese community and help them flourish, as it is in the best interest of everyone to see the factories do well.”
While his visit focused on development, Consul-General Wang further inspected the Chinese community’s documentation to ensure their permits were valid, without them having to travel to Durban.
“On behalf of the Chinese community, we would like to thank Consul-General Wang and his team, as it saved us a lot of time and trouble,” concluded Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairperson, Alex Liu.
