Phakel’umthakathi leads Newcastle March and March protest

Protestors joined a march calling for illegal immigrants to leave South Africa before the June 30 deadline.

Hundreds of March and March supporters rallied around Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, popularly known as ‘Phakel’umthakathi’, in Newcastle today (Saturday, June 27) in support of the June 30 deadline for illegal immigrants to leave the country.

Protestors gathered along Albert Wessels Drive from as early as 09:00 to participate in the planned march through the Newcastle CBD.

Law enforcement monitors march as supporters gather

Law enforcement was out in full force throughout the day to ensure the march proceeded ion a peaceful and orderly manner.

Amajuba District SAPS Commissioner, Major General Fred Alexander was present to co-ordinate safety and security efforts among police, CPF, private security companies, traffic and various other stakeholders.

Protesters reaffirm call for action

As they marched, they reaffirmed their intention to reclaim the country for South African citizens by forcing illegal immigrants out.

No incidents were reported at the time of publishing this article.
