Nets destroyed at Klipfontein Dam

MEMBERS of the Social Boat Angling Forum destroyed two nets they found in Klipfontein dam over the weekend.Robbie Price, who spoke on behalf of the Forum, said he was heartbroken that people continued to cast nets in the dam, when doing so is illegal and harmful to nature.

“The nets we removed were 115m and 60m in length. We managed to save about 40 fish, which were released back into the dam, but about 80 fish were killed in the nets,” said Mr Price.

“The problem is that the fish are cut by the net, and bacteria sets into those cuts, leading to the fish dying.”

Both nets were destroyed. Fishermen who witness the casting of nets at Klipfontein Dam are urged to contact the Social Boat Angling Forum.
