#WackyWednesday: Wacky charity organisations that truly exist
If you are looking for a charity to support this holiday season, be sure to check out our selection of unusual charities.
The festive season is finally upon us and Christmas cheer is plentiful, with decorations brightening up homes and stores.
While Newcastillians prepare themselves for Christmas Day, people are often reminded this is the time to think of others.
If you are looking for a charity to contribute to, here are four of the strangest charity organisations to exist:
1. 501st Legion

This is the ideal charity group for any Star Wars enthusiast who wants to do good.
This international fan-based charity organisation was established in 1977, and sees its volunteers dressing up as villains from the Republic.
Dressed up in costumes and participating in fundraising and volunteer efforts, the volunteers have shown the Dark Side of the Force can be used for the benefit of others.
2. Zombie Squad

This rather unusual non-profit organisation was created by horror film fans, who combined their shared interest in zombies and disaster preparedness.
While the group describes itself as an elite zombie suppression task force, on its off days they host disaster relief fundraisers, disaster preparation seminars, and they volunteer their time at emergency response agencies.
3. Tall Clubs International Foundation

This is one organisation that stands out.
The Tall Clubs International Foundation focuses on exceptionally tall people. The aim of the foundation is to help children reach greater heights by providing scholarships for young men and women of a certain height.
4. The Naked Clown

This non-profit organisation was started by members of a clown conservatory after world renowned juggler, Judy Finelli, became wheelchair-bound by multiple sclerosis.
Originally intended to raise funds for Finelli’s medical expenses, the clowns started holding benefits where they performed naked.
However, no actual nudity was depicted in the performances. These performances ultimately gave way to the organisation’s yearly “Naked Clown” calendar.
The calendar depicts the performers in various portraits and situations, but each clown uses props, equipment and positioning to strategically “dress” themselves, while giving the overall impression of nudity.
