Last Friday (February 16), the Grade 12 learners from Ladysmith Secondary School (Lasec) visited the Royal Hotel in Ladysmith. These learners will be engaged in a practical examination that will take place in March. This exam will test their ability to set a table consisting of a starter, main course and a dessert.
Ricky Taylay from the Royal Hotel skilfully demonstrated which cutlery and crockery needs to be used to set tables for a lunch meal, buffet meal and an A’ la carte menu.
The learners were also taught how to fold napkins and how to go about serving a guest.
They were treated to a show and tell lesson based on various glasses and dishes and their specific functions. Thereafter, they had the chance to try out the skills they had learnt.
To end the day off, lamb biryani, dessert and a soft drink was provided for each child.
A special word of thanks to Mr SN Govender and Richard Lee for making this trip possible.
