Seven years for Lakeside rapist

The victim had climbed out of a taxi in Lakeside and was attacked by a rapist who become aggressive and dragged her to a nearby bush.

THE Vryheid Regional Court finally brought justice for a woman who was raped by Khanyisani Jabulani Khumalo in July last year.

According to a report, the woman had climbed out of a taxi in Lakeside at around 6.45pm when she was approached by Khumalo who then started a conversation with her.

The man is said to have become aggressive and dragged her to a nearby bush.

All the while, the woman was begging this man not to hurt her but he would not hear that.

He is said to have taken out an okapi knife and threatened her with it.

The woman was then instructed to kneel down because Khumalo was going to kill her.

He is said to have then started to assault her with his fists until her glasses fell and broke, then proceeded to push her to the ground, took off his jacket, made her lie on top of it and then raped her.

After that, Khumalo escorted the woman to her home promising to give her R1200.

The community saw what was happening and they chased after Khumalo.

He was caught and handed over to the police who detained him as investigations continued.

Khumalo was finally sentenced to seven years in prison on January 24 this year.
