Thousands of Rands of cash netted by keen anglers
Anglers took the competition very seriously and many had great success – their efforts producing some big carp.
Thousands of Rands of cash was waiting to be hooked when Riverside Angling Club hosted their grand overnight bank fishing competition at Chelmsford dam.
Held under the auspices of the NNFWAA, the competition attracted 498 anglers from all over the country who were keen to net the grand cash prizes.
Anglers took the competition very seriously and many had great success – their efforts producing some big carp.
Over 120 fish were caught and weighed and then released safely back into the water.
Vernen Naicker of Riverside Angling Club thanked all the sponsors and anglers who supported the event. “It was a wonderful fishing occasion,” said Vernen.
Winners: First carp, 4.675kg Cameron Murugan who walked away with R25 000; second carp, 4,630kg Ismail Bobat who won R10 000 and third carp, 4.365kg Bradley Pillay, R5000 winner.
Barbel: First, 3,615 kg Stephan Bester R10 000 winner, second, 3,110kg Anthony Bekker R5000 winner and third, 2,625kg Richard Winterton, R2000 winner.
Skins winners: 1st skin: Heinrich Swiegers 2,815 kg carp, 2nd skin: Stephan Bester 3,615kg barbel, 3rd Anthony Bekker 3,110kg barbel, 4th Kavier Singh 2,860kg carp and 5th Rishi Durgadin 2,735kf carp.
Ashley Horner netted a 2,955kg carp to make sure that the ladies were well represented and was declared Female Angler of the Day while Dundee’s Trent Donaldson’s 2,610kg barbel ensured that took home the Best Junior Angler Award.
