March 25:
One person died following a collision between a motorbike and vehicle on the corner of Harding and Hardwick Streets.
Newcastle 911 CPF, Newcastle SAPS and emergency services attended to the scene.
It is alleged the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene, but was tracked down and was detained by SAPS.

April 1:
– While on patrol in Barry Hertzog Park, members of the CPF noticed some people frantically running along FW Beyers Avenue.
Upon investigation, it was determined there had been a house burglary on DF Malan Street and the people were chasing after the suspects.
Newcastle SAPS was contacted for assistance, but the suspects managed to evade arrest and vanished.
– After noticing a suspicious looking vehicle in Barry Hertzog Park, SAPS members decided to stop the driver and search the vehicle.
While conducting the search, the driver and five other passengers abandoned their belongings and ran away in various directions.
After it was determined the vehicle was from a foreign country, SAPS and Newcastle 911 formed a search party to locate the suspects.

A cellphone, cash and suspected burglary equipment was found in the vehicle and sent for forensic testing.
Information was then followed up on, which led to the arrest of two of the suspects.
Further information led to the arrest of two more suspects in Madadeni Section 4.
A fifth suspect was later apprehended in Madadeni Section 6.
During the operation, suspected stolen goods as well as counterfeit money were recovered in the suspects’ possession.
April 6:
– A house burglary was reported to be in progress on Mayfair Road in Lennoxton.
The suspect managed to flee the scene and evade arrest.
– A business burglary was reported at a retail store, where cellphones were stolen.
After receiving a tip-off, two suspects were arrested and 424 cellphones were recovered.
