As part of the 12-year-celebration, Spar will be hosting a two-week-long party, where visitors to the store can look forward to super specials, giveaways, raffles and regular visits from Spar suppliers, who will be on duty to answer and assist anyone who needed it.

According to Arnold Kunene, store manager, it was important for Spar to share this celebration with the clients and their years of loyal support.

“With Newcastle supporting us for the last 12 years, we thought it would be fitting to thank them by giving back during these two weeks,” Kunene explained

Customers and employees of Spar can also look forward to the re-launch of the store as a Super Spar.

“We have decided to improve our store as part of the celebration so we added a few pay points and expanded our range of products, to make our customer’s shopping experiences even more rewarding.”

The 12-year-celebration of the Taxi City Spar coincided with the 55-year-celebrations of Spar, therefore Spar decided to give back to the community, not only in Newcastle but nationally.

“Spar was having promotions nationally and we were lucky enough to see one of our own customers receive their free shopping spree earlier this week. This promotion is for all our Spar rewards members. The system randomly selects a customer when you swipe your rewards card, and then you receive all your shopping of the day for free. We were very happy to share this experience with our first free shopper during our birthday week,” said Nico van Huyssteen, owner of the Taxi City Spar.

During the relaunch of the Taxi City Spar, now a Super Spar, it became clear the shop had left its mark in the last 12 years, as customers, staff members, center management and the rest of the community came together in huge numbers to show their support to the store.

Newcastle Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi, who officially opened the new and improved Super Spar was excited to be a part of the event.

“Events like these give us as Newcastillians hope for a better future,” he said.

“As a community, we have been through a lot in the past few years, with the economy suffering and businesses closing down, but today we celebrate everything we can achieve as a community if we stand together and respect each other.”

Be sure to join in the celebrations and support Taxi City Spar during its birthday celebrations.
