Mobility = Freedom project continues to aid the disabled

ArcelorMittal (AMSA) and Majuba Rotary are continuing its wheelchair drive, and have handed out even more wheelchairs to needy recipients over the last two weeks.

According to ArcelorMittal’s Socio-economic Development Manager, Joe Nowbath, the first recipient was Madadeni resident, Nduduzo Mazibuko.

“Nduduzo is a young man who has extreme difficulty getting around using his crutch. He was extremely grateful, and mentioned he no longer had to sit at home as he could now go to shopping centres using his brand new wheelchair.”

Senior citizen, Mr Roos, who lives on Impala road also struggled to move around using only his crutches, and was the second recipient.

“I believe the wheelchair will give him the freedom to visit friends, relatives and even restaurants with more ease,” said Nowbath.

Two more wheelchairs were donated on April 24 to two women at the Fairleigh Flats.

“The lovable Aunty Maude Cloete and the amazing Geraldine Caroulus were both using borrowed wheelchairs which were in poor condition. The women both blessed the partnership between AMSA and Rotary, which continuously brought about real change in the lives of people around them,” he concluded.
