The able-bodied try their hand at wheelchair racing to raise money for the APC

Handling a wheelchair in an unfriendly environment is not easy

The Association for the Physically Disabled hosted a unique race on Wednesday – a wheel chair to raise money and to raise awareness as to the challenges the disabled are faced with everyday in a somewhat wheelchair unfriendly environment.

With the cold weather biting, it was decided to host the race inside the bowling club – using tables and chairs as obstacles the teams had to negotiate.

With Henning-John Meyer and Peter Glasgow doing the time keeping, there was much merriment and cheering as supporters cheered on their teams.

And the teams represented a cross-section of the community – Eventide staff, SPCA workers, FedAuto, Sarel Cilliers, Rotary Club, DHS,  Can Do Men, Sarel Cilliers and more.  It was a great, fun evening with a message – with the Sarel Cilliers students prevailing as being the quickest around the course!
