A brand new library for Bhekuzulu Old Location
'As a community, we faced so many issues with children walking so far from their homes in order to obtain books.'
AMONG the many developments that are currently taking place in Bhekuzulu Old Location, residents can look forward to the opening of a brand new library.
Although the idea of a library is not a new one to the Bhekuzulu township, as there is the eBhareni library, which has been active for many years, this new library sets to help bring books and learning closer to the children that walked far to the eBhareni library in New Location.
“As a community, we faced so many issues with children walking so far from their homes in order to obtain books. They had to walk past really unsafe areas and some were raped and abused in various ways,” said Ward 10’s councillor, Dudu Mazibuko.

Cllr Mazibuko said that it did not seem right to see children suffering terribly as they thrived to improve their learning and so as a community, they wrote a letter to the Minister of Arts and Culture, Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi, requesting assistance.
“We were pleasantly surprised at her willingness to work with us when we first wrote to her in 2011 and seeing the library finally complete makes one so proud,” said Cllr Mazibuko.
She went on to say that she is highly grateful to the MEC for the wonderful initiative.
“As a woman and a mother herself, it was really great to see her take our requests and concerns about our children, especially the young girls, seriously. I could never thank her enough for what she has done for my ward and the community at large,” said Cllr Mazibuko.
In closing, the councillor said that she looks forward to the official opening of the library and urges community members to take good care of it.
