Close league encounter for Dundee golfers

Saturday's Sanlam Cancer Challenge saw 32 golfers competing in the I.P.S. competition.

Sunday’s N.KZN Men’s league fixture between the two Dundee Country Club teams went down to the wire, with the ‘B1’ team managing to notch up their third victory in succession by beating the ‘B2’ team 8-4 and remain unbeaten in the league. The two teams were level at 2-2 after the morning foursomes, however, only Danie Von Molendorff managed to win his singles game for the ‘B2’ team, with Barry Sandy going down to Clement Sithole on the 17th hole and Marc Bradbury losing to Cyril Mkhwanazi on the 18th hole. The victory for the ‘B1’ team keeps them tied top of the league table with Vryheid G.C. while the defeat for the ‘B2’ team sees them drop to fourth on the table.
Saturday’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge saw 32 golfers competing in the I.P.S. competition, and winning the Men’s A division for the second consecutive year was Gene Robson on 38 points with Walter Du Plessis finishing second on 37 points. Dion Sadaw won the B Division on 43 points with John Zulu second on 38.
The Men’s C division was closely contested between Philip Ceronio and Leon Wellman with both players scoring 33 points, which saw Philip take the honours by winning the count out.
Vlooi Slabbert won the Ladies B division on 38 points, three points ahead of her mother, Lorien De Wit, who finished with 35 individual points. Hlengiwe Hlongwane won the Ladies C division on 36 points, with Dolly Bradbury finishing runner-up on 32 points.
Friday’s 11 holes Chicken Run saw twelve players taking part, and it was Willie Maritz with 26 individual points who walked away with the first prize followed by Danie Von Molendorff on 24 points.
This week’s fixtures; Dave’s Wednesday 10 Hole competition, Friday’s Chicken Run and on Saturday, June 16 is the Monthly Mug Medal competition for June.
