SPORTS: Bowling pairs reach the jack

Bowlers are also reminded of the AGM to be held on July 21, and the prize giving on July 20.

Newcastle Bowling Club hosted its annual Pro 10 pairs competition last weekend, in ideal conditions.

The format for this competition differs from the usual one, in that each player only uses two bowls and only 10 ends are played.

The scoring also differs, with the bowl closest to the jack scoring four points, the second shot scoring three points, the third shot scoring two points, and finally the fourth shot scoring one point.

A total of 100 points is therefore scored over the 10 end game.

In Section A, the teams of Stephen and Samantha Shaw, and Lou and Eleen Roux both lost only one of their five games.

The Shaws, having scored more points, were declared the winners of the section.

In Section B, Marie and Fritz Botha won all of their five games to pip Douglas and Lyndsay Steele, who dropped just one game.

Both section winners now travel to Mtunzini to participate in the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls (KZNCB) Regional Playoffs later this month.

Bowlers are also reminded of the AGM to be held on July 21, and the prize giving on July 20.
