The Eskom Expo For Young Scientists, NKZN Region, was held on Friday (July 27) at the Indoor Sports Complex.
Learners from various local schools – as well as surrounding areas such as Newcastle, Dundee and Colenso – participated in the science extravaganza. 25 brand new schools participated in this year’s expo.
A variety of exhibitions were on display, falling under categories such as food, health and medical sciences. There were 506 participants, with 204 projects on display on Friday.
34 learners received gold medals, 62 silver and 70 bronze. In addition, 101 ‘Highly Recommended’ medals were received.
The purpose of the event is to encourage and motivate learners to educate themselves about their surroundings through various topics in the arena of science.
A panel of judges went around to assess the projects and interact with the pupils.
Well done to all our little scientists out there!
“I would like to thank the committee for planning this expo at short notice, the judges who voluntarily helped, the educators, learners and all the sponsors,” said Vassan Gordon Kathan, administrator – Northern KZN Region Eskom Expo For Young Scientists.
