DHS’s diverse talents celebrated

DHS Einsteins impress judges at Eskom Expo for young scientists
A wise man once said, “Hard work and dedication truly brings ultimate success.” Keeping this in mind, on Friday, July 27 at around 5:30pm, eight enthusiastic and eager DHS scientists departed from Dundee High School on a venture to display their awe-inspiring scientific knowledge at the annual prestigious Eskom Expo Science fair held in Ladysmith. After a challenging day filled with a flurry of activities and answering complex questions, they managed to impress the judges and obtained the following accolades: Gold: Ayaz Bhula; Category Prize: Ayaz Bhula; Gold: Mumtaz Malek; Silver: Laura Lukhele; Bronze: Lethu Gule and Bronze: Azande.
DHS would like to thank Mr and Mrs Boshoff for accompanying the team. The school is extremely excited to see what these young scientists have in store for us in the next few months! Well done!
DHS se Anica Mostert – Jukskei wenner
Hoërskool Dundee is trots op hul jongste sportsoort se uitmuntende prestasie. Van ‘n vaal ou Voortrekker sport het Anica Mostert, tans in Graad 12 ‘n naam geskep vir Jukskei by die skool.
Juskskei het spontaan ontstaan uit die behoefte tot ontspanning en die uitbou van die kompetisiegees en sosiale verkeer met ander mense.
Die naam Jukskei is afkomstig van die oorspronklike voorwerp waarmee die sport aanvanklik beoefen is, naamlik die skei wat uit die juk van die os getrek is.
Die spel bestaan uit die gooi van ‘n skei, oor ‘n vasgestelde afstand, in die rigting van die pen, wat in die sandput geplant is. Die doel van die spel is om 23 punte aan te teken of om te keer dat jou opponent eerste 23 aanteken.
Anica het in die afgelope ses jaar Umzinyathi, sowel as KZN verteenwoordig in hierdie spel. Anica het vir die afgelope drie jaar streek gespeel in die Junior Kampioenskappe in Kroonstad. Sy het laas jaar saam met Limpopo gespeel as uitruil speler. Sy het wel streek behaal. Sy het ook onlangs haar afrigters kursus voltooi.
Anica gaan hierdie jaar voort om ons skool se naam hoog te hou met haar prestasies by laas naweek se opedag in Richardsbaai, waar sy saam met André Mienie en Jeanette Stoop gemengde trips gespeel het.
Sy het Saterdag 4 Augustus, Dundee Hoër verteenwoordig by die Vryheid liga en daarna gaan sy voort om Umzinyathi te verteenwoordig die naweek van 10-12 Augustus in die Indigenous Games liga.
Alles voorspoed word aan ons Anica Mostert en haar familie voorgewens in hul prestasies.
DHS Speech and Drama
On July 28, Kiana Sadaw, Muhammed Hoffese and Keshmiél Govender, together with Mrs Sewmangal, departed to Ferrum High School in Newcastle to participate in the intense semi-finals of the South African Literacy Association Competition. The competition was high but all three students presented their speeches with much passion and enthusiasm.
The three students are awaiting the results to see who will go into the finals of this competition. All three of these speakers definitely made Dundee High school very proud.
