‘Arrogant’ security guards make Estcourt Home Affairs visit unpleasant

This leads the frustrated woman to believe that the rules are being made up along the way and as it suits the security guard on the day

Anger and frustration mounts as more complaints about the security officers at the Estcourt Home Affairs surface.
In January this year an Estcourt News journalist reported on the poor service residents receive, during which a local mentioned how abrupt the security officers are, adding that they communicate with a bad attitude.

No respite in sight at Home Affairs in Estcourt

This time, one woman was willing to give us her story, if only she remained anonymous due to the fact that she has to make another visit to the branch soon and does not want to be victimised.

She explained that there never seems to be any long queues outside anymore, “but the security guard at the door is STILL arrogant, racist and intimidating,” she added.

“My husband, myself, daughter and baby boy had to apply for passports. When we entered the door, it was just after 2pm. The guard was so arrogant towards us and asked me what I was doing there. I wanted to tell him ‘I’m here to buy sweets’, because what does he think I am coming to Home Affairs for? To apply for something obviously,” the woman exclaimed.

More issues arose when the family entered the local office with their youngest child in a push bike.
The guard told the woman’s husband that it was not allowed, forgetting that they had visited the office with their baby in a pram previously and it was allowed.

This leads the frustrated woman to believe that the rules are being made up along the way and as it suits the security guard on the day. To add to this, the family was informed that the queue for passport and identity document applications was closed for the day, ‘as they do not want to finish late.

“We drove 50km to get to the Home Affairs in Estcourt, my husband had to take time off, and we had to wait for my daughter to finish school at 1pm, so we could only be there at that time, which is not unreasonable as they close at 4pm,” said the woman with fury.

These concerns were relayed to the office of the Provincial Home Affairs Manager. Mr CZ Mncwabe, the Kwa-Zulu Natal Provincial Home Affairs Manager responded on Tuesday morning saying: “I have received your concerns and will be able to respond after investigations on the allegations have been finalised.”
