Rapist who preyed on school girls jailed
Buthelezi was later arrested and charged with rape, robbery and kidnapping.
A man who raped a 13-year-old school girl after threatening her and a friend with a knife has been jailed for life plus 15 years. Sandile Frederick Buthelezi (36) of Nquthu appeared in the Regional Court where it was heard how in 2016 he accompanied the girls, the 13-year-old and her 16-year-old friend who were walking from school, by striking up a conversation. When the trio reached a clump of trees, he produced a knife, threatened them and tied them up using their school ties. He robbed the older girl of her cell phone and took the younger girl to another area where he raped her.
Buthelezi was later arrested and charged with rape, robbery and kidnapping.
In court, Regional Court Prosecutor, Hazel Moeponi Molefe, led the testimonies of the rape complainant, DNA report and the J88 – doctor’s report of the injuries suffered by the victims. Prior to the finalisation of the matter, the 16-year-old passed away due to natural causes.
The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, 10 years imprisonment for robbery and 5 years imprisonment for kidnapping. The sentence for kidnapping will run concurrently with that of robbery.
